Although Walt Disney was very involved in the planning of EPCOT, he died before he could see it. After Walt’s death, Walt Disney Productions began building the Magic Kingdom and Wheel Resort in 1967. The park was built as a larger version of Disneyland in California.
The Magic Kingdom is built on tunnels, a portmanteau of utility and hallways, that allow patrons (called “cast members”) or VIP guests to explore the park.
Due to the high water table in Florida, the tunnels cannot be placed underground, so they were built at the current grade, which means that the park is built on the second floor, giving the Magic Kingdom a height of 108 feet (33 m). The area around the users was filled with waste from the Sev Sea Lagoon, which was built at the same time. The facilities were built in the pre-construction phase and were not expanded with the expansion of the park. Tunnels were originally designed at all Walt Disney World parks, but were scrapped, largely due to financial constraints. Future World at Epcot and Disney Springs each have a small user network.
Walt Disney World is a tribute to the philosophy and life of Walter Elias Disney… and to the talents, dedication and commitment of the Disney organization that made Walt Disney’s dream come true. May Walt Disney World bring joy and inspiration and new knowledge to all who visit this happy place…a magical kingdom where young people of all ages can laugh, play and learn together .

Magic Kingdom Park opened on October 1, 1971 as the first part of the Walt Disney World Resort, along with Disney’s Modern Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. It is divided into six themed areas (Main Street, USA, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, and Ireland) and Liberty Square, which has twenty-three attractions specific to the park and twenty copies of attractions in Disneyland. The Walt Disney Company promises to increase this number by combining models and unique beauties. Although not specifically dedicated to the Magic Kingdom, a dedication to Roy O. Disney’s Wheel Resort is placed at its entrance.
The only place that was included in the original list of theme park locations was Mickey’s Toontown Fairgrounds. It is home to attractions such as Mickey’s Country House, Minnie’s Country House, Barnstormer at Goofy’s Wiseacre Farm, and Donald’s Ship. It was closed on February 12, 2011 to make way for the expansion of Fantasyland. Walt Disney World’s Mickey’s Toontown train station, which opened on Mickey’s birthday in 1988, was closed for construction. In 2012, Mickey’s Toontown Fairgrounds reopened as part of Fantasyland in a smaller area called Storybook Circus, where Dumbo the Flying Elephant was relocated. Stopped Barnstormer and re-themed The Great Goofin.
The Magic Kingdom has been temporarily closed since opening day due to the storm: Floyd, Charlie, Francis, Neanna, Wilma, Matthew and Irma.

“Magic Kingdom” was used as Disneyland’s unofficial nickname before Walt Disney World was built. Disneyland’s official label is “The Happiest Place on Earth,” and Magic Kingdom’s label is “The Most Magical Place on Earth.” Until the early 1990s, the Magic Kingdom was officially known as “Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom” and was never published without the prefix Walt Disney World. The goal is to differentiate between the park and Disneyland in California. In 1994, the park was officially named Magic Kingdom Park to distinguish it from Disneyland. Like all Disney theme parks, the park’s official name does not begin with an article (“”), although it is often called that; however, the train station in front of the park has a sign that says “Magic Kingdom”.
Alcoholic beverages have been prohibited since the park opened, but this policy has changed over the years. In 2012, My My Be restaurant decided to sell wine and beer for the first time. Symbolically, Main Street USA is themed as an early 20th century American town, Missouri, the childhood home of the Disney Wars. Symbolically, Main Street represents the park’s “open credits” where visitors passing under the park (open curtain) can see the names of key employees in the windows of the building’s upper floors. . Many of the windows bear the name of the cruise line, such as “Save Summits Expeditions, Frank G. Wells President,” each honoring key figures involved in the development of the Disney Company and Walt Disney World Resort. It has stylistic influences from all over the country. Inspired by New York City Missouri, this design is most prominent in the four corners of the center of Main Street, where each of the four corner buildings displays a unique architectural style. There is no opera house like Disneyland; instead, there is the Town Square Theatre. Christopher George Weaver, the “ruler” of Main Street, USA and one of the most important people in the park, welcomed visitors for 26 years before his death in 2017.
The main street has shops selling goods and food. City Hall has a guest relations lobby where actors provide information and assistance. A working barber shop offers haircuts for a fee. Main Street USA also has 3 ft (914 mm) of main street traffic.
