McGee-McGregor Wading Pool, 1200 E. Bennett St. it’s Saturday and Memorial Day; Open from 10 am to 12 pm. and 3-6 hours. This pool is for adults only for children under 6. Entry to this pool is free.

Beginning the week of June 13, the Park Board will open the Grant Beach Pool, 1401 N. Grant Ave.; and Silver Springs Pool, 1100 N. Hampton Ave. Schedules will be announced. Outdoor pool rentals will also begin the week of June 13.
Parks Director Bob Belote said the biggest challenge facing public swimming pools this summer is the shortage of lifeguards, which is affecting pools across the country and region.
“We are still recovering from lost Park revenue related to this pandemic, which helped our staff and board make the difficult decision not to open Meador and Westport this summer,” Belote said. “But even if we got the new funding today, we still wouldn’t be able to open all of our pools because we wouldn’t be able to hire enough trained lifeguards to open and operate them safely.
Family Aquatic Centers/pools
The Park Board needs to add 25 new hires to the current 55 lifeguard staff to open the Grant Beach and Silver Springs pools. In a typical summer, all outdoor pools are open six days a week and require at least 125 lifeguards.
“We’re trying things we’ve never done before,” Belote said. “Now that school is out, I expect to see more applications. We need qualified lifeguards to keep our pools safe and are asking for the community’s help in sending us qualified applicants.”
Applicants must be 15 years of age or older; You must pass a swim test and complete lifeguard training and certification. Applicants will be contacted for further details. Learn-to-Swim is affiliated with the American Red Cross and adheres to national standards for Red Cross aquatic programs.
