What’s So Special About Disney World Deluxe Resorts?

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is a luxury Disney resort just one stop away from Magic Kingdom.

With over 25 resort hotels at Walt Disney World, it can be hard to know where to start when choosing where to stay! Before checking into any particular resort, it is best to decide which category of resort is best for you and your family. Walt Disney World has resorts to suit all tastes and budgets, so you’ll find one that’s right for you!

In a nutshell, Walt Disney World has three resort categories: value, moderate, and luxury. There are also Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts, but I will review those in another blog post.

What Are Disney Deluxe Resorts

Value resorts include Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s All-Star Movies, Disney’s All-Star Music, Disney’s All-Star Sports and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is a little different, as it mostly offers family suites that are slightly larger than standard rooms. However, Art of Animation has several standard Little Mermaid themed rooms. I usually recommend Disney’s Pop Century Resort in this category because it was recently renovated and the new rooms are so cool! If you don’t plan on spending a lot of time at your resort or room, or if you’re on a tight budget, Disney’s Value Resorts are a great option, especially if it’s your first trip to Walt Disney World.

Best (and Worst!) Disney Deluxe Resorts

In the middle category, you’ll find some good options in the middle of the road. These include Disney’s Port Orleans – Riverside, Disney’s Port Orleans – French Quarter, Disney’s Caribbean Coast, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, and Disney’s Fort Desert Cabins. Just like regular hotel rooms. Disney’s Port Orleans – Riverside is my favorite of the mellow resorts. Disney’s Midrange resorts offer a great mix of amenities and value, and if you plan to spend a decent amount of time at your resort during your vacation, I’d usually recommend something in the Midrange category. Stay at home, or if your family needs a little more space.

Disney’s Port Orleans – Riverside is an average resort and is People Mover Travel’s choice for best resort in this category.

Finally, there are the luxury Disney resorts. In the deluxe category, you’ll find Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Boardwalk Inn, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and Disney’s Yacht Resort. The best resorts with top-notch amenities and great features! They are the best hotels in Walt Disney World and they are all world class resorts. They have a variety of options for what types of rooms you can go for – from standard rooms to two-bedroom villas. My favorite luxury resorts include Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Polynesia Village Resort, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

In terms of spas, the good news is there is no wrong answer! All of the Disney resorts are amazing. When it comes to considering mid-range and luxury resorts, there are a few things to keep in mind. Luxury resorts offer several nice amenities that make them desirable for many people. First, and perhaps the biggest factor, is proximity to parks and transportation. Several luxury resorts are located along the monorail, giving you direct access to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Others are within walking distance of Epcot, and others still have direct access to the parks via water taxis (all resorts access the parks via buses). This means less time on buses and less time using transport in general. For example, if you’re staying at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, you can decide to go to Magic Kingdom and be there in 10 minutes! Also, suites have interior doors (enter your room from the interior hallway from the exterior hallway) and all suites have balconies.
