At Disney World’s moderate resorts, you get a little more space (for a little more money than the tourist resorts), table service restaurants, and a pool with a slide.

Disney’s All Star Movies Resort

Disney’s luxury resorts are essentially parks, with interior corridors and themes with a subtle Disney flair.

Disney World Villa Resorts are home to Disney Vacation Club members, but anyone can book a room there directly from Disney or even rent points from a Disney Vacation Club member to save.

Here’s a handy list of Disney World Resort hotel addresses and phone numbers that you can use as you plan.

But staying at a Disney hotel gives you a great location and on-site perks (like free and convenient transportation to the parks and the Magical Express) that you don’t get at other hotels.

When you’re going to Disney World, you’re probably hoping for at least a little bit of that magical Disney feeling. Staying still makes it easier.

Plus, because the Resorts are so themed, it extends your vacation beyond the park gates.

You can have a wonderful time abroad. But if you want the magic of Disney (complete with Disney Cast Members and top-notch customer service, themed rooms, and on-site perks), you’ll want to stay at a Disney resort.

Heather has been planning trips to Disney World for over 15 years. Heather joined WDW Prep in 2014 to help others plan their families. As editor of the WDW Prep magazine, he travels every month to stay up-to-date and has helped the site get millions of views a year. Send an email to Hees. The first time I visited a Disney park I was two and a half years old, not much but old enough to know I had found my happy place. That first visit started a tradition (perks of living in Southern California) and sparked a love for Disney that has led my family and me to the castle steps of all 12 Disney parks.

Disneyland Vs. Disney World: Which Disney Park Is Better?

Years later, I’m still a big fan of everything: Disney characters, rides, different rides, and food. That’s why I spend my days writing the Disneyland Dining column for the Disney Food Blog. It’s a good excuse to visit the park again (and again) and it allows me to focus on what I love: all things edible at the Disneyland Resort.

Through all of my visits, I’ve learned a lot about the parks, like who wins the Disneyland vs. Disney World debate, and I love sharing that knowledge with other potential guests. Here are my insider tips and park highlights to enjoy the best Disney vacation around the world.

Disneyland is my favorite. This is the original park that Walt Disney created and where the magic began. I was born and raised in Orange County, where Anaheim Park is located, and have been going there regularly since I was a kid. I must have seen the Disney parks for decades. Today I go there on average almost every week! It’s also the park where my two sons (now 20 and 17) grew up, so it’s very nostalgic for my family.

Some of my family’s Disneyland insiders include a stop at the Plaza Inn for fried chicken, a night ride on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and grabbing a churro in front of the castle. There are so many attractions here that you won’t miss a single Disney attraction.

In the California Adventure Park near Disney, our family’s favorite is the Corn Dog Castle. And you’ll often find us hosting a family-friendly competition at Toy Story Midway Mania. We also love staying at the Disneyland Hotel.

Tokyo Disney Resort, a theme park in Japan that includes Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, my favorite international park. The people, the culture, the food, the entertainment, I literally love everything about it. My family first visited in 2014, then again in 2017, and have been a few more times since then. Our plans to visit in 2020 have been derailed by the pandemic, and now we await the day we can finally return and experience the new normal at Disney Parks.

Tokyo DisneySea is beautiful and the rides are very interesting. Don’t miss Journey to the Center of the Earth or Journey from the Sinbad Tales, the latter of which features a lovable tiger named Chandu. He is a very popular character here.

The most exciting snack at Tokyo Disney Resort is flavored popcorn. They sell everything from curry and soy sauce to honey and chocolate and the cutest popcorn I’ve ever seen. My absolute favorite snack – I would call it my number one food – is spring roll pizza at Toontown, located in Tokyo Disneyland. Puisto also makes Great American Waffle Co.’s most beautiful Mickey Waffles.

Top 5 Tips For The Disney World Challenge: Visiting All Four Theme Parks In One Day

Tokyo Disney Resort won the Best Disney Souvenir Award. The merchandise is unlike any other Disney theme park. What shape foaming hand soap? Check. Little Mickey tongs for eating popcorn so your fingers don’t get hurt? Check. Cute little towels for wiping your hands or sweating? Check.

You can’t go wrong at Tokyo Disneyland Hotel or Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta after a day of walking around the park. I’m a fan of both, but be warned: they’re very expensive. You can save money by staying away from the property. My family loves the Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay, located on the monorail that takes you to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.

It is the ultimate park and is home to the gigantic Enchanted Storybook Castle. It is both the newest and largest of Disney’s castles, standing nearly 200 feet tall. We loved this park when we visited it in 2018, just two years after it opened. The newness of the park and countless attractions offered a lot to see and a lot of new experiences even for regular Disney customers like us.

Don’t miss Tomorrowland’s Tron ride or Pirates of the Caribbean’s Shanghai version. Both are fantastic and cannot be compared to any other Disney park ride, although Walt Disney has a Tron ride coming soon, making the thrill more accessible to Disney fans in the US.

Of course, I can’t ignore food. It’s magical here. There were so many delicious treats. We had a delicious meal at the castle in the royal ballroom. The themed food and desserts were so unique and the character visits made the dinner even more interesting.

I recommend staying on the Concierge level of the Disneyland Hotel. The lounge offers full meals throughout the day, and staff can help book special events, dining and more. Before you go on a ride, make sure you know the list of items that are not allowed in the Disney parks.

I have been to Walt Disney World several times and brought my kids the first time in 2007. Epcot is our favorite park here. There’s nothing better than cruising through the different “countries” of the World’s Fair for snacks and shopping.

Canadian Pavilion’s Cheddar cheese soup and Le Cellier are not to be missed. We also love the German pavilion’s Karamell-Küche for every appetizer, but especially caramel corn.

For Epcot attractions, Living with the Land is a family favorite, as is Journey Into Imagination With Figment. And of course, you can’t miss a ride on Spaceship Earth. Our favorite place is Disney’s BoaWalk Inn; from there we can walk to Epcot. I would be totally fine with going to Walt Disney World and just visiting Epcot – I love it so much!

We don’t usually spend much time at the Magic Kingdom because we have Disneyland at home, but we love the nostalgic ride on the PeopleMover and the Carousel of Progress. We also can’t visit without getting a Citrus Swirl in Adventureland.

Hollywood Studios is also a fun stop. We love eating at the 50’s Prime Time Café and the Slinky Dog Dash in Toy Story Land is a must. You can also get one of my all-time favorite treats at Hollywood Studios: Carrot Cookies at the Trolley Cafe.

Visiting Animal Kingdom in Pandora: the World of Avatar at night is amazing. I like to ride Avatar Flight of Passage and then enjoy a Night Blossom frozen drink at the Pongu Pongu Lounge. We also love Expedition Everest: Legend of the Forbidden Mountain, thrilling roller coasters and meeting animal lovers on a Kilimanjaro safari. If we’re not staying at the BoaWalk Resort, we’ll be staying at the Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, which is right next to the Magic Kingdom.
