The Chatwal A Luxury Collection Hotel New York City Review: What To Really Expect If You Stay
A stunningly renovated reincarnation of a classic Manhattan theater club, Chatwal offers a sense of luxury at an affordable price. The iconic building dates back to 1905 and offers the delights of old New York, from classic cocktails at the bar to elegant fireside dining at the Lambs Club. Free bike rentals are available (with a special NYC Parks card), and the hotel has a small pool, fitness center, and spa. The house car provides free transportation within a 20-block radius.
NEED TO KNOW While the location is very convenient for a Broadway theater, the lively Midtown neighborhood may not be to all visitors’ tastes.
Luxurious but understated rooms and suites feature suede walls, faux-leather closets reminiscent of classic luggage, and iPads for ordering room service or chatting with housekeeping. Images of old New York match the hotel’s Art Deco style.
In the warmer months, ask about the terrace suite – some have the same furniture as the rooms. The Producer Suite has a spiral staircase leading to a large roof terrace.

Marble bathrooms feature large televisions, built-in mirrors, spacious rain showers, heated toilet seats and plush robes. You can watch as much TV as you like in the bathroom.
The cozy lobby is a comfortable place to relax with banquettes and leather sofas, fresh flowers, marble floors and soft background music. Art Deco accents hint at the building’s history, and the double ceiling gives the cozy room a spacious feel. The small bar has a lively atmosphere in the evenings.
The small pool looks more suited to diving than swimming, but has a feature that allows guests to swim against the current for exercise. There is also a small but well equipped Red Door Spa.
Chef Jeffrey Zakarian’s Lamb Club is the place to dine, with its blazing fireplace and elegant red leather banquettes. Jazz brunches and Broadway brunches are popular white-tablecloth dining events, but favorites like lobster rolls, hamburgers, and aged steaks turn locals into regulars.

This glamorous hotel has a timeless appeal, both in its public spaces and in its exquisite guest rooms. We love the rooms with large terraces, the free shuttle within a 20-block radius, and the elegant restaurant with its large fireplace. The service also sets this property apart as it is truly excellent.

New York is one of my true loves. Every time I go, I am inspired, and when I leave, I admire creativity. This past visit was no different. Although I left with a bit of the travel bug, it left me with little time to write (like this blog post).
When I was in the city, my home was Chatwal in Midtown. The Art Deco Luxury Collection Hotel in New York City is the perfect escape while exploring the city. (It doesn’t hurt that they have an indoor vehicle that can take you anywhere within a 20-block radius, which makes exploring especially easy.)

Stepping into Chatwal takes you back to the 1960s. The Mad Men-era lobby is incredibly sleek and modern. Every time I walk into the lobby, I want to go to the bar and order a martini.
In the back corner is an invisible door that leads to the Lamb Club, Chatwal’s sexy and chic restaurant. Decorated in red leather, The Lamb’s Club is the perfect place for breakfast during your stay at The Chatwal or for lunch before catching the latest Broadway hit.
My room at Chatwal was the definition of LUXE. My room had all the amenities of a luxury hotel, from the mirrored bathroom to the king size bed and leather walls. Even the heated toilet seat is no slouch, which came in handy during the arctic cold on my trip.
So, unless I’m admiring the lobby or sitting at the bar, I prefer to curl up in my room and not go out.
The Time New York Review: What To Really Expect If You Stay
On one particularly cool but not cold day, we thought it would be fun to get together, make a fire, and prepare the kitchen. (Pssst – Chatwal has some rooms with amazing terraces, so I recommend these rooms when you plan your stay.)
Around the time we were on the terrace, the Women’s March 2019 was taking place in front of Chatwal. So we ate our food and checked out the march a bit.
This weekend was one of my favorites in NYC, thanks in part to The Chatwal. When you’re away from home, it’s welcoming and welcoming, and it’s easy to just relax and enjoy your explorations.
A million thanks to The Luxury Collection New York and The Chatwal for hosting me so generously! Times Square is full of tourists, Broadway theatergoers, and a parade of office workers (or at least office-goers these days). It is often referred to as the “Crossroads of the World”. It’s a busy, bustling area of the city that first-timers should visit and jaded New Yorkers should avoid.
Guests pay to stay here, often at large hotels like the massive Marriott Marquis – one of the most popular purchases in the Bonvoy program.
But steps away from the madness is another Marriott hotel, Chatwal, a boutique resort with just 76 rooms and suites.

It seemed like the perfect mid-week getaway for my wife and I—without the kids, physically within 1.5 miles of our quick home, but mentally miles away.
This hotel is not cheap. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to increase your spending.
The base rate was $735 for a suite that was about 270 square feet. As a Bonvoy member, booking a room directly through Marriott costs $720.
