Stay On Main Los Angeles – The Los Angeles City Council voted Tuesday to approve landmark status for a building in the Historic Core. Developer Matthew Baron of the Simon Baron project, which is turning the Cecil into a boutique hotel and micro-unit apartment complex, has applied for the designation.

The city noted that the hotel, which opened in 1924, represented the lodging industry of the early 20th century in the United States, a time when guests began to turn from country retreats to city hotels.

The Cecil’s location near Seventh and Main Streets made it popular with business travelers who wanted to be close to Spring Street, then a major financial center called the “Wall Street of the West.” It was also popular with theatergoers who flocked to the great halls of Broadway.

Strange Deaths At The Cecil Hotel

Currently, the Hotel Cecil/Stay on Main is currently not open to the public as it is undergoing renovations and will be converted into a mix of hotel rooms and apartments. However, CEO Amy Price (who worked there from 2007 to 2017) told Netflix that she saw about “80 deaths” in the 10 years she worked there.
