Miltown Malbay Hotel – Residents of Miltown Malbay are upset at the way eleven asylum seekers were suddenly moved to a new direct supply center in Ennis this week.
On Thursday, a group of eleven men staying in emergency accommodation at The Central Hostel in Miltown Malbay were told during their dinner that they would be moved to their new home at Clare Lodge on Mill Rd in Ennis in l within hours.

Following what they called an “unexpected surprise”, the men who had developed close ties and relationships with Miltown Malbay residents took to the community’s WhatsApp group to express their appreciation for the kindness they have been offered since their arrival in Co Clare.

As the news spread, several Miltown natives rushed to the Central Inn to say goodbye in person with long hugs and kisses for the departed man. Some members of the community were unhappy with the sudden move and felt the notice would warrant a “goodbye”.
Emotions ran high at the time, with officials from the Clare Immigrant Support Center attached to The Central Hotel reminding individuals that the Reception and Integration Agency (RIA) always intended to close all temporary emergency shelters like the one in Miltown.
The men were ‘heartbroken’ but comforted by comments from Miltown residents who said they were still welcome in West Clare with a spare room ready in their own home.
“It is comforting to know that Ennis is not far from Miltown, because we can always come back and receive a warm hug and love whenever we need it, because Miltown will always be our home,” said Innocent.
