Tucked between a pristine Hawaiian beach and a country club golf course, Kahala Resort is a peaceful oasis in Honolulu. Its location is unique in that it is in such a peaceful location, yet is only a ten minute (free) shuttle ride from the shops, restaurants and activities of Waikiki Beach. It’s the best of both worlds. For more location information, see this page from the resort’s website.

For reference, we stayed in an ocean view room with a Juliet balcony. The spacious rooms are decorated in a classic style with light earth tones that allow the view from the large windows to be what it should be.

The bathroom is nicely decorated for two, with two sinks and two separate wardrobes at opposite ends. It has a good sized shower and a separate bath. The toilet is in a separate closet and equipped with a bidet and toilet seat.

When I stay in a luxury hotel, I expect luxury bedding, and Kahala definitely delivers. We had thick fluffy towels, plush carpets and high quality bedding.

The rooms are very generously sized with space for dining and, if necessary, as a table for work purposes.

The Kahala Resort

Let’s start the resort services with a swim in the pool and on the beach. The resort has an oval-shaped pool overlooking the ocean surrounded by cushioned loungers and umbrellas. There is also a shallow children’s pool and a hot tub. Deckchairs and towels for the beach and lawn are provided for the beach.

For even more splash, there’s Dolphin Quest where you have the chance to interact with the resident dolphins. Andy and I enjoyed a dolphin experience back in 2007. Even if you don’t get in the water with the dolphins, it’s wonderful to see them in the lagoon.

There is more wildlife to see in the saltwater pools with young honu (turtles) and tropical fish. It’s a nice way to see the fish without getting wet.

Kahala Resort is a comfortable setting for a wedding and is well equipped for wedding services. During our stay, we saw a lot of newlyweds and grooms.

Kahala Hotel & Resort Celebrates 50+ Years On Oahu

During our recent, short stay, we enjoyed afternoon snacks and a truly outstanding breakfast buffet at Plumeria Beach House. Plumeria Beach House also offers a great seafood buffet on Friday and Saturday nights.

Kahala offers wonderful tea service and/or cocktails and pupus in The Veranda with indoor and outdoor seating.

There are enough different restaurants in Kahala that you won’t need to go outside. If you want more options, the free shuttle service to Waikiki gives you access to many other restaurants.

The veranda of the hotel (by the restaurant of the same name) is a special place to relax and admire the scenery. I could have been content to sit for hours in one of the many rocking chairs.

The Kahala Hotel & Resort Day Pass

Kahala is definitely a great option for a hotel in Honolulu. Some people find Waikiki, also part of Honolulu, a bit crowded. Kahala offers close proximity to Waikiki and other Oahu attractions, but without the crowds. Kahala is a luxurious respite with room to breathe.

There were no city fees during our stay. Cheers to that! (Policies such as resort fees are always subject to change, so check directly with the resort for any changes.)

The Kahala Hotel & Resort is a luxury resort located on the island of Oahu, tucked away in Honolulu’s upscale Kahala neighborhood, across from Diamond Head and just a ten-minute free shuttle ride from Waikiki.

It truly is the best of both worlds – close enough to Honolulu and Waikiki for shopping, dining and activities, yet far enough away from the crowds that you can enjoy a relaxing vacation on Kahala’s private beach.

Arriving at this beautiful resort is an experience reminiscent of gracious “Old Hawaiian” hospitality with an inviting lobby reminiscent of a plantation mansion – offering designer furnishings and spectacular palm tree views of the ocean.

Kahala Hotel And Resort In Honolulu

Kahala encompasses a diverse mix of Honolulu dining trends and cultural influences offering excellent on-site dining options that include:

The resort has one of the largest rooms in Hawaii, starting at 550 square feet, with his and hers bathroom vanities and walk-in closets. Recently remodeled rooms and suites are spacious and decorated in a modest Hawaiian style with mahogany furniture.

During our recent stay here, we were in a large bedroom with a view of the mountain. The room offered enough space for our family of four, and it was nice to have separate sinks and toilet/shower.

The mountain view rooms, many with balconies, offer stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and golf course. The oceanfront and boardwalk provide spectacular panoramic views from Diamond Head to Koko Head Crater.
