Is The Keating Hotel Still Open – In downtown’s Herald Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego real estate developer and luxury car enthusiast Eddie Cain converted a historic 1890 Romanesque Revival-style building into a 35-room, eight-suite hotel with a strong dining, nightlife and entertainment scene . Designed by the Italian firm Pininfarina, responsible for the classic lines of many iconic Maseratis and Ferraris.
Built in 1890 of granite and brick, the five-story Keating, 432 F Street, is a tribute to Kansas native George J. Keating, owner of the local farm Smith & Keating. He moved to San Diego four years earlier in 1886 with his wife Fanny. After George’s death, they asked Reed Brothers to design and build a five-story office building, including steam heating and a wire cage elevator. Reid & Reid designed the grand Hotel Del Coronado nearby.

Reopened in 2007, the Keating Hotel is just four miles from San Diego International Airport and close to the San Diego Convention Center, Petco Park, Seaport Village, Horton Plaza and Coronado Island. Guests attending La Jolla Concours events April 7-9 will receive complimentary valet services.

Pininfarina chose distinctive colors of black and white and Ferrari red for public spaces such as the lobby, meeting rooms and corridors. Adam Della Rocca, general manager of The Keating Hotel by Pininfarina for hotel management company RAR Hospitality, explains that the light gray and cool blue tones contrast with the rooms.
Added boutique amenities include LaVazza espresso machines, Fret Egyptian cotton sheets, ambient lighting, Bang & Olufsen HD entertainment systems, Wi-Fi Internet access, in-room Alpha Morphosis Jacuzzi tubs and glass rain showers. In-room minibars are stocked with custom cocktails, intimacy kits, cigars and more. In addition, guests enjoy a 24-hour personal assistance service.

The hotel has been redesigned with sustainability in mind. For example, some of the original building materials, such as wood and steel, were reused, and many trees and materials were preserved.

Deluxe Stanzas and Suites start at standard luxury, including atrium views, a California King, or two large twin beds. Alternatively, the Gaslamp City View Stanza has a California king-size bed or two large twin beds and views of the city.
Inspired by the best of Scotch, the Macallan Suite features a Pininfarina-designed Morpheus Jacuzzi tub clad in copper reminiscent of whiskey stills, seating and a minibar stocked with full-size bottles of vintage Macallan. Additionally, inspired by Michelin 3-star chef Gordon Ramsay, the Victory Suite includes a dining area, sofas, carpets and decor hand-picked by the chef.
The Fresca Spa Suite features a California king-size bed, an atrium with a whirlpool Jacuzzi and an outdoor steam shower. The suite offers in-room spa treatments such as therapeutic body treatments and skin care services.
The Imperiale Suite features a California king-size bed, a wet bar, a lounge overlooking the bedroom with a gas lamp and an Alfa Morphosis jacuzzi designed by Pininfarina. Finally, the elegant loft suite includes a large work desk, an upgraded entertainment system, lounge window seating and a custom-designed shower by Donbrach, the Ferrari of bathroom accessories.

In addition, 2,500 square meters of meeting space can accommodate many events, meetings and large groups of up to 150 guests.
Car events are already popular at Pininfarina’s Keating. “We work with high-end car manufacturers to showcase their cars,” says Della Rocca. “Their cars are presented in the valet parking in front of the hotel as a centerpiece, a showcase for photos and red carpet entries.”
