Designed by the Frank Whittle Partnership (FWP), the Chester Hotel on Newgate Street is the brainchild of family business Walker & Williams and comprises 12 uniquely designed and themed suites.
It opened to visitors on April 12 in line with government guidelines and is looking to benefit from an expected increase in stopovers.
FWP led the restoration of the building, which dates back to 1782, and turned it into £4.6 million flats.

The Chester Hotel was previously used as offices and has been empty for around 15 years. The construction of the hotel took 18 months.
Each uniquely designed apartment has a theme like Money Penny. The luxurious and contemporary James Bond themed penthouse consists of two large living spaces connected by a floating bridge.

That’s the belief of Max Walker-Williams, part of the husband and wife team behind the Chester Hotel, which is due to open on Monday (April 12).
The team were given a tour of the stunning five-star property on Newgate Street as the finishing touches were put in place ahead of its eagerly awaited opening.

Previously used as offices, the Georgian houses, which have been derelict for several years, have been renovated and transformed into 12 uniquely designed and themed apartments.
Developer Walker & Williams, which Max founded with his wife Laura in 2016, was granted planning permission for the project two years ago.
The hotel, which will offer stand-alone luxury accommodation but with the benefit of 24-hour staff, was due to open in January but these plans had to be put on hold due to the Covid lockdown.
Now the once ‘neglected’ building is finally opening its doors to the city and Max and his team of COO Ross Taylor and Managing Director Chris Mayles are excited to see the response from the public.

Max, who lives in Preston with his wife and three children, said: “It’s a big investment for us and a big investment for the town. I really think we have improved accommodation in Chester.
“Chester has always been one of Laura’s and mine’s favorite towns. We come here a lot. I’ve seen six or seven different sites in 12 months.
“They were either in the wrong location or too small. Then I saw it and bought it in 2017 with planning permission received in 2019.
“It’s not an ordinary building. It wouldn’t be like that when you build a building that was built in 1786. It was neglected.

“We can always do better, but the teams have worked very hard on this project. I have full confidence in these guys – they’ve put a lot of time and effort into building a team and culture that will get the project right. way.”

The Chester Hotel has created ten roles, including receptionists and housekeepers, and around 50 local jobs have been created during construction, as well as using local suppliers.
Max wants to make the site an important part of the town’s business scene, with local artists’ work on display and a reception area for buying, as well as stands for area vendors to sell their wares.

The company will make a donation to Chester Zoo for every order for the zoo-themed apartments.
“We look forward to being a part of the community,” said Max. “Aparthotels are a very good incentive for local businesses and we can point guests in the right direction.

During a tour of the stunning new accommodation, Max highlights the outstanding features of the accommodation, most of which are sourced from local or UK businesses or traders.
