Is Star Wars Open At Disneyland – Disney has released updates on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, including the opening sessions for both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, the name of the village in Batu, and some additional concept art. For vacation planning purposes, the opening dates are more relevant, and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will debut in summer 2019 at Disneyland and fall 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Beyond that, Disney revealed that the village on the edge of the galaxy is named Black Spire Outpost, a notorious stop for traders, adventurers, and smugglers traveling around the Outer Rim and Wild Space. During panels at the event, fans also confirmed rumors that Galaxy’s Edge will feature full-scale AT-ATs, and that the second attraction (after the Millennium Falcon ride) will be riding a Resistance troop transport. A kind of “animal stall”.

Disneyland’s Second Star Wars Land Ride Is Delayed Until January
Let’s start in reverse order by opening Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World. While it’s common to think of December as winter (well, except in Florida), it’s important to remember that fall doesn’t technically end until December 21st. This will keep the vague term “Late Fall 2019” out of the Thanksgiving area. Christmas. Walt Disney World definitely wants to open a Star Wars land
The problem with this Thanksgiving Christmas opening range is that there aren’t many weeks where Star Wars Land offers a nice, quiet time to debut with minimal operational headaches. Getting a quick introduction during the week of Thanksgiving or Christmas might sound appealing, but those times are already a nightmare for operating parks.
With Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge sure to draw crowds like never before, opening a new land during a moderately crowded time would be undesirable, and opening during peak season would be disastrous. Walt Disney World is sure to train actors and prepare for crowd control for the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, but can only really prepare so much in advance.
Some aspects of opening new ground must be tested by fire. Pandora – The World of Avatar has been a mess since its Memorial Day weekend debut, and it’s not nearly as crowded as it was in December. Also, the Avatar franchise lacks the loyal following of Star Wars. (The crowds Pandora continues to draw for activities based on Galaxy’s Edge expectations should be eye-opening.)
The Essential Guide To Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge In Disneyland
The potential sights at Disneyland aren’t great. At the resort level, Disneyland does not have the necessary infrastructure to support Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Parking is usually a hassle on weekends, filling up many days in advance. The new parking structure won’t be done until next summer, and unless crowd-control measures are taken, it will hold up traffic on the surface road and I-5 off-ramps.
Inside Disneyland, the situation is somewhat better. To Disney’s credit, efforts have already been made to increase capacity and eliminate choke points. That doesn’t change the fact that this is a 60+ year old park, not designed for today’s – tomorrow’s crowd. Don’t be surprised if the entire park has one-way traffic that is used to control crowds around the main road during the nighttime spectacle.
Hard ticket events are also possible at Disneyland, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see a long hard ticket event – perhaps several weeks from late May to mid-June 2019, with media previews and a grand opening in late June. 2nd on the last or last weekend of June 2019.
This gives Disneyland’s operations team an opportunity to see crowd trends, and what works and what doesn’t in a controlled environment. Importantly (for Disney, at least), it provides a high-paying revenue stream. We all know Disney has no shame in experimenting these days.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Is Now Open At Disneyland Resort!
These hard-ticket events can be seen for a week or a month (or longer), but the one-night event of La Picture Pierre is unlikely. Star Wars is a money-printing license, and there’s no shortage of fans paying exorbitant amounts to experience Galaxy’s Edge early and/or with smaller crowds. Hell, I am
A die-hard Star Wars fan and generally hate Disney’s various new fare, but I would pay extra to avoid that crowd.
The only thing stopping Disneyland from holding hard-ticket previews of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is if production is behind schedule. So far, we haven’t seen any signs of that, but things can always change.

Hard-ticket events and timed entry tickets after Star Wars lands. Universal Studios Japan uses it on busy days years after The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened, and it’s very useful.
At USJ, it’s a mad dash for paper timed entry tickets (think paper FastPass) as soon as the park opens, but at Disney Parks in America, entry to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will make it a largely electronic process with the new Hot Ticket FastPass+. or MaxPass. We expect both coasts to use the time slot; Otherwise, the lines to reach the land may consume a large part of the respective parks.
Ultimately, save for a mid-September or January launch (incredibly unlikely scenarios), there really aren’t any “good” times to launch Galaxy’s Edge. Star Wars is a cultural phenomenon with incredibly passionate fans; Between that and diehard Disney fans, the opening of this new land can be a whirlwind of crowds, long lines, and chaos when it opens.
If you want to avoid the worst of it, your best bet is to go for a preview (may be paid) or wait at least a month after the respective opening. A month doesn’t seem like a long time before the rush dies down, and it isn’t. The reality is that congestion will not end in the coming years. Once you get out of the startup crowd, the difference between a month and a year open is minimal. The wait is longer than the time removed from the grand opening due to the seasonal congestion system. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is going to draw crowds of guests, with wait times measured in hours.

In the summer of 2015, Disney, one of the world’s largest media companies, announced that it was developing Star Wars Land. The expansion of Disneyland (later, Disney World’s Hollywood Studios) would fill a corner of the park with state-of-the-art technology, fantastical character experiences, and substantial storytelling.
For a long time, I didn’t believe them. I thought no one — not even Disney — could really bring the Star Wars universe to life outside of the theater. I was certain that the gaps would show and shatter the illusion as soon as I walked onto the property.
But four years later, “Star Wars Land,” aka Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, is a reality, and on opening day of the expansion, the Disney magic worked for me. Planet Batuu felt very real. It rang true. All of them.

Along with two colleagues, I was one of the first to visit “On Planet,” as Disneyland artists called it, and one of the lucky ones to see Mars and its Black Spire outpost up close.
The sheer size of the land, with its ambitions of rides, shops and artists, is enormous. Galaxy’s Edge blew me away the moment I walked in.
