The Greville Arms Hotel in Mullingar is one of the few surviving Irish hotels known to James Joyce and mentioned by him in his writings.
The hotel was built in 1750 on the site of the existing Greville Arms Hotel. Caldbeck was the architect chosen by Lord Greville and was also responsible for building the Market House. To the right of the hotel is the Ulysses pub, named after Joyce’s novel, and there is a statue of Joyce in the public house commemorating his visit to Mulligan’s. Ulysses Pub was originally a house built around 1820
