Belmullet has a population of around 2,000 and has many amenities for visitors to the town. The town has many shops including a post office, general stores, hardware stores, hairdressers, beauticians, drapers, chemists, pubs and restaurants. It has a civic center consisting of the Áras Inis Gluaire Arts Centre, a courthouse, the Belmullet branch of Mayo County Library, Mayo Co Council offices and Udarás na Gealtachta offices. The center has a children’s playground, green areas and ample parking. The town has its own Garda station, fire station and lifeboat centre. There are two doctor’s offices, two dental offices, an optician and an emergency service. The town is home to a Catholic church and has services on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings.
