Entering the main lobby takes you to where the event begins. If you’re a shy person, you might have a hard time convincing women that they won’t be friends for a few hours. Two large bars, the blue marlin and the large Casino are located next to the reception area, which is busiest at night. The lobby has been known to host several young women sitting next to older women – usually American and even the Casino will not hide you from beautiful women.

After being checked in, we walked a short way to the back entrance of the bar. As in the horror of a holy dream or the wet dream of a horny American, the bar is literally overrun with oversexed Latin women, due. Entering a place like this, the ego triples exponentially; the eye , the smile, the wink, the body turns. to you, greets you with the thickest air of sexual tension. As you can imagine, these girls are not the hard-to-get type, they are prostitutes, working legally as one of the main tourist attractions of Costa Rica.
I arrived in San Jose a week before tonight. Visiting Arenal, Manuel Antonio, Quepos, doing typical tourist adventure routes: ATV, Canopy Tours, White water rafting, Hanging Bridge, tasting the best cuisines of various cities, being taken in a Cessna through the mountains, fighting lizards to fall food, imitating the sound of a Gecko, meeting distant strangers and telling the usual jokes about national politics and vice versa, crawling up and down and over steep mountain slopes in a low-powered 4×4 off-roader and finally accompanied by a beautiful woman who whistles for construction workers seems like child’s play.
Once we got into Key Largo, we made sure not to make eye contact with the many girls who were patiently waiting to be whisked away for an hour and $100; we headed to the bar where we found a laughing grandfather hugging two twenty year old girls. They sipped their drinks and shook their heads at the impulse of true joy. We sat quite far from the Glee band and watched the live salsa band perform. On stage, two very attractive girls danced in unison while singing into the microphone; red, yellow and green lights illuminated his sweaty skin, adding to the ominous atmosphere. We ordered two Pilsens, pulled out our Romeo & Juileta Robustos, lit them up and filled the air with the thick smoke of Cuban tobacco while we waited for our friend Frank to arrive.
At the front of the stage, a sixty-year-old Latino danced to the music. His wet shirt was unbuttoned revealing his sagging chest and stomach. She smiled, salsa dancing with what looked like a man in a pink dress. Her cheeks are hollow, her jawline and high cheekbones are defined, and her thin black hair is pulled tightly back, the loose strands at the back flowing like air conditioning tape behind her as she accelerates dramatically to the beat of the drum . Her skirt lifted to reveal the pink thong as she turned and pulled the older man’s arms back. They danced merrily in the midst of girls flirting with fat old Americans at the tables surrounding the dance floor.

We had read about the hotel on the internet while we were stranded in our hostel with nothing to do in San Jose for the first night of our trip. It’s one of the first things that comes up when you search for: “San Jose nightlife.” Since almost every link contains the Hotel Del Rey, we went there to satisfy our curiosity and find out why the reviews of this place said: “A must visit if you are in Costa Rica”, “An experience like no other”, “Be king for a day or a Sunday”, “Slumming with the Best”. We didn’t expect it to be so ridiculous – the sweet land of animal sex. We are humble.
