Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) is a public university located in Shah Alam. It was founded in 1956 as the RIDA Training Center (Industry Development and Rural Development) and started with 50 students with the aim of developing the Malawian community outside the city. The institution was known as MARA College in 1965. In 1967, the college was renamed Mara Institute of Technology. Its mission is to bring out talented people in Malaysia who are bumiputera.
In August 1999, the University was renamed University and former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohammad announced the change of name of ITM to Universiti Teknologi MARA. With the great recognition of this government, a plan to renovate the university has been underway to increase the use of the university’s resources to increase the progress of the university.
