Canada’s main postal system is called Canada Post or Canada Post. This postal service uses similar conventions to the United States and United Kingdom postal systems; but there are some differences. This article will tell you how to address envelopes to Canada.

To send an envelope to Canada, start by writing the recipient’s name clearly just above the center of the envelope. In the next line, enter the apartment number, if there is one, followed by a hyphen and the street address. Below that, write the city, state, and zip code in that order without punctuation. Write Canada on the last line if you are sending the letter from outside the country. If you expect a reply, please provide a return address in the upper left corner! Most often it is: Choose a destination, choose dates, enter payment information and voila, happy traveling!

However, there are some big mistakes you can make when it comes to hotel reservations. From booking in the wrong places to forgetting to check some essential information, these mistakes can easily spoil or interrupt your trip. Read on to find out what to avoid when booking a hotel room.
I recently spoke with a front desk agent about how her hotel chain assigns rooms upon check-in. Curious, I asked what method her staff used to determine who would get the best located rooms. She discovered this surprising tidbit: Those who book through the hotel’s website or are members of the hotel’s loyalty program usually receive first prize room assignments, with better views and quieter locations. Travelers who book through online travel agencies (OTAs) like Priceline often get rooms with the “run of the house” (what she called “rooms behind the ice” or basically whatever else). The agent couldn’t tell me how many hotel chains do this, but she said it’s a “pretty common practice” and that it sweetens the deal for travelers who book regular rates.
Solution: Hotel loyalty programs are often free to join, and membership can provide better accommodations, free nights, or helpful perks like free breakfast or Wi-Fi.
If the best possible room is essential to a happy trip, book directly on the hotel’s website. But when that low, low OTA rate can’t be beat—we know the feeling—you can always request a specific room type or location.

A double bed or two double beds? High floor or low? No smoking? A view of the water? Three individual red M&Ms? When booking a hotel, most booking engines will allow you to make requests or add comments regarding your stay. However, most hotels also say in the fine print that your requests are not guaranteed.
Correction: The old adage “Expect nothing and you’ll never be disappointed” applies here, but it’s cold comfort when you really want comfort. First, know that hotels will generally try to accommodate your requests. If upon check-in you find that your double beds have been pushed together or that you have been placed in a smoking room, please speak to the front desk agent and request a change – politely. It’s also worth calling the hotel before you arrive to confirm your requirements, especially if some are for medical reasons.
I am guilty of this travel sin. While traveling abroad a few years ago, I noticed that my flight left on May 14th, so I booked a destination hotel from the evening of May 14th. Rookie mistake. I completely forgot to check that my red eye flight was on the early morning of the 15th. That means I paid for an expensive (and non-refundable) room I didn’t need.
Solution: Unlike your hapless writer, make sure you have the flight plan handy when you book and double-check your arrival and departure dates. Also consider time zones. If you cross an international date line in transit, yes, your check-in dates may be different than expected. It’s also not a bad idea to have someone review your reservation before you hit “confirm” or “pay” to make sure the dates you’ve chosen are correct.

When booking a hotel, credit cards are king. Not only do credit cards offer rewards like airline miles, free nights, or cash-back bonuses, but they also offer certain guarantees that debit cards and cash don’t (such as fraud protection or instant refunds for erroneous charges).
Another tip that many travelers don’t know? Most hotels will ask for a incidental deposit if you use a debit card to protect yourself from being overdrawn if you don’t have enough funds in your account. These extra deposits can add up: I once made a $100 deposit in Las Vegas that was not returned to my account for two weeks.
Solution: If you manage your money wisely and choose the right type of credit card, you can see a lot of benefits when booking accommodation. NerdWallet rounds up the best credit cards with travel benefits. Also, don’t forget to catch Tim Winship’s Miles & Points column hosted by SmarterTravel every week. In it, Winship lists current credit card promotions.
Travelers beware: the wrong hotel name or location description can lead you to book an airport hotel when you think you’re getting downtown accommodation. You’d be surprised how often travelers see a hotel name and quickly book it without checking that it’s in the right place. After all, some hotels may call themselves “located near the city center,” but a quick search may reveal that they’re at the airport… two hours away.
Motel Vs Hotel: What’s The Real Difference?
Solution: Check the postal address and find the exact location of the hotel on Google Maps. Always enter the address of the hotel and see how far it is from popular attractions and restaurants by foot, car or public transport. Try entering the addresses of some of the sights you’d like to see while you’re at your destination and map out a route. You might want to explore the neighborhood with Google Maps Street View. And if there are multiple chain hotels in the city, make sure you book in the right neighborhood—Hyatt Times Square and Hyatt Flushing are really different.
Back in March, editor Ed Perkins reported on one of the most outrageous resorts we’ve seen. At a hotel in Colorado, a decent room rate of $170 was artificially inflated by $35 for cleaning, $40 for resort, $10 for pool and spa, and $5.10 for processing. Ouch.
Fix: You may be able to fight some fees, such as housekeeping or newspaper delivery, if you don’t want to use such services. Others, such as resorts, are mandatory, so you need to consider additional costs when booking a hotel. Hotels are expected to clearly display resort fees, but OTAs may not and instead include vague language such as “surcharges may apply.” So call the resort and ask directly about additional resorts before booking.
