Checking out of a hotel seems like a simple enough process, but it can sometimes overwhelm even seasoned travelers, especially if it involves staggering around at dawn to pack everything in a suitcase for an early flight. Below are some common mistakes people make when searching for hotels. Avoid them and save time, money and stress.
Hotels are notorious for charging hidden fees. While some of these are unavoidable, you’ll want to scan your bill for anything that seems suspicious, like charges for snacks or drinks when you didn’t touch the minibar, or a dinner at the hotel restaurant that was charged to the wrong room number. . . . Be sure to dispute these charges and get an updated copy of your receipt before you pay.
How To Reserve A Hotel Room Block For Your Wedding
My parents once went to the Paris airport before realizing their passports had been left in a hotel safe. Needless to say, they missed their flight, and it was a stressful ending to an enjoyable trip.
His story is not unusual. In addition to leaving things in the safe, travelers often leave toiletries in the shower and phone chargers in electrical outlets out of sight and out of mind.
Pack as much as you can the night before, when you’re not stressed. Then, just before you leave the hotel, do one last sweep of your room. Look under the bed for things that may have fallen, pull back the shower curtain, check all the outlets, and open the safe.
A tip long recommended by savvy travelers: leave one of your shoes in the safe the night before so you can’t leave without taking it off. Another option is to bring your pre-trip packing list and review it before leaving the hotel to make sure you have everything.
Hotel Tips And Ideas You Can Use On Your Next Trip… By Riadues1969
In your rush to get out, don’t forget about your hard-working (and often underpaid) housekeeper. If you don’t have small bills on hand, the front desk can give you change. Depending on local tipping rules and how messy you are, tip between $2 and $5 per night of your stay.
In an ideal world, you walk out of the elevator, hand the key card to the receptionist, and check out of the hotel in about 90 seconds. Don’t count on it, especially if you’re staying at a large hotel that caters to conventions and/or tour groups. Such properties often have long lines at reception during the most popular check-out times.
If you have a plane or train to catch, please take extra time to check in.
Yes, it’s convenient, but travelers on a budget should book an Uber or Lyft instead. Not only will the rate be cheaper, but you’ll also save a few bucks in tips for hotel staff.
Historic Nyc Hotels To Stay With Your Kids
If you’re staying at an airport hotel before an early flight, the property will likely offer a free shuttle, but don’t assume you can show up at 5:30 AM. and tackle. Transportation locations can be limited, and many hotels recommend (or even require) that you reserve your spot the night before.
After you book, make sure you arrive on time. If you are not in the lobby when the van is ready to leave, the front desk can call you, but the shuttle can wait a long time while other passengers rush to catch their flight.
Most hotels require travelers to check out by 11am. m. or noon so that housekeeping staff have time to clean the rooms for the next guest. Make sure you know your hotel deadline so you can plan accordingly.
If you need a little more time, please call the front desk as far in advance as possible and see if they can accommodate you. Just don’t stay in the room longer than the check-out time. It will disrupt your cleaning schedule and may incur additional charges.

What Is The Age Requirement To Check Into A Hotel?
Hotels have published check-in and check-out times. However, there is usually flexibility there. Most hotels will allow you to check in well before the listed time, as long as a room is available and it has been cleaned.
However, how far in advance do you want to check in to your room? No, generally you cannot show up at 12:01 am. m. with a reservation for the same day and expect you to check in 15-16 hours before your check-in time. So when is it reasonable to show up and expect to get a room based on availability?
I can’t remember the last time I booked a hotel stay and decided whether or not to book the night before. Usually my program works in such a way that the answer is obvious. However, now I have a situation where I am in conflict.
I am considering a trip to Alila Hinu Bay in Oman, a hotel that has been on my wish list for a long time. The nearest airport is Salalah International Airport (SLL) and the best way to get there is with Qatar Airways. The Qatar Airways flight is scheduled to land at 4:20 am.
What Does ‘check In’ Mean In A Hotel?
Immigration will probably take some time after that (especially given Oman’s entry requirements), and then the resort is about a 75-minute drive from the airport. At best, I estimate that I will arrive at the hotel around 6 am. For what it’s worth, the hotel charges about $300 a night all-inclusive, so it’s not cheap by any means, but it’s not $1,000 either.
Like I said, I think this is an interesting question because usually the choice is obvious to me. I’ve never been so indecisive about whether or not to book the night before, so I’m curious what OMAAT readers do. It is difficult to make these decisions without complete knowledge:
While most hotels have published check-in and check-out times, the reality is that people’s travel plans rarely coincide with them. Most hotels are willing to accommodate early check-in based on available space (sometimes for a fee, but usually not), though there are limits to this.
You should only expect to be able to check in after the nightly audit and personally I tend to think early check in is a reasonable request starting around 6am based on space available.

What is your experience with early check-in at the hotel? For those in the hospitality industry, do you have any idea what early check-in looks like? And in the example above, do you book a room for the night before or not? But what is the last thing you can do in a hotel? Can you check in at any time? Can you check in late at night or after midnight?
This post is about being late for hotels, and when exactly does “one night late” become “early the next day”?
In general, the standard check-in time is around 3:00 p.m. m. At the time of booking, your hotel will inform you of your check-in time.
But a 3:00 p.m. m. it does not mean that you will be there at exactly 3:00 p.m. m. or even
