Can I Light A Candle In A Hotel Room – I read these words from Madeleine L’Engle on the plane returning from a trip to Canada to see dear friends. Before leaving for the airport, Mark and I watched a news feed at the bottom of the TV screen in our hotel lobby. rumors of war. burglaries and burglaries. People yell at each other.

, which contains this quote, is still from 1972. I had to check the date because it appeared to have been published yesterday. It speaks to what we are doing now – insecurity and division, pain and injustice. She also talks about hope and love, joy and creativity, faith and finding the way back to each other.

Sometimes when I’m trying to understand what’s going on in the world, I feel like I’m looking out the plane window I was sitting in, in L’Engle’s words. Everything seems so far away, so untouchable and I feel trapped and helpless.

In these moments I am tempted to believe the worst for the future, for humanity and for myself. But then I remember Jesus and I start stepping on the ground again. He also lived on this swirling, churning, mud-covered earth. He showed us that it is possible to make a difference.

We light a candle when we do the little things, when we smile, instead of scowling at the unreasonable person who has too many items in their express checkout truck at the grocery store.

We light a candle when we prefer encouragement to gossip, although the latter is more tempting than a still-hot chocolate chip cookie out of the oven.

We light a candle when we rock our babies to sleep, when we whisper a prayer, when we attend to the details in a spreadsheet at work, as if tending a rose garden.

We light a candle when we stop believing we’re always right and instead choose to be honest, when we realize that a soft heart in a hard world is courage, not weakness, as we enter the stare at darkness and say:

Our hope is not that the world will get better. It’s not even that we’re getting better ourselves. This world and humanity will inevitably disappoint you. Our hope is that we are serving a God who is still at work, whose purposes cannot be undone by the greatest evil, who has slept in the manger and walked in our shoes for a while, whose love is the flame of our candles .

“The word gave life to all that was made, and its life brought light to all. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot quench it” (John 1:4-5).

To be honest it was a dream job I’ve had for 2 years. Actually, this little post helped me get my job! But I want you to know that as always, the thoughts, feelings and opinions expressed in this blog post are my own and I bought (almost) all of these candles myself. Trust me, I’ll tell you which candles are my favorites and which aren’t. ;P This post also contains affiliate links.

I’m addicted to a good candle. And even more for a good hotel. Also, there is nothing more luxurious than when your home feels/looks/smells like a fancy hotel (in my opinion). When I heard that one of my favorite bloggers and her husband were creating a line of candles inspired by luxury hotels around the world, I was one of the first on the waiting list. (Which was good, because their first run sold out in 22 minutes. 22nd minutes.)

This is a long post so I’ve created some content for you so you can jump straight to any topic or scent you want to read more about. Just click on the link below and you will be taken straight there. Or you can read all the way through. I’m not here to tell you what to do!

Hotel Lobby Candle is the baby of Lindsay Silberman and Matt Stevens (along with Long Hair Pierre). These two luxury hotel experts have traveled the world and documented their travels and experiences on Lindsay’s incredible blog (www.lindsaysilberman.com). Of course, Lindsay, Matt and LHP are fantastic followers on Instagram, as is Hotel Lobby Candle.

In fact, it should come as no surprise that Hotel Lobby Candle is inspired by “olfactory memories” of fantastic hotels around the world. All of this is reflected in the naming convention of the candle (Signature, Paris, Cabin, Miami…). And the detailing of everything Hotel Lobby Candle is absolutely exquisite. From reusable containers to hotel key cards with your burning instructions. In addition, the glassware is also hand-painted. Of course, the whole experience is pure luxury.

But at this price point, of course it should be. Candles in the hotel lobby are $56 each. They are handcrafted in the USA using 100% natural soy wax. The full-size hotel lobby candles each weigh 9.75 ounces and have a burn time of 65 hours. There are currently 4 fragrances available – Signature, Paris Nuit, Miami and Island – with Linen launching on January 21st. Previous fragrances include Chalet, Cabin, Holiday, Rose and Cassis. (Lennen, Rose and Cassis were in a mini vow trio last winter/spring and Lennon is released full size!)

Indeed, the luxury and quality of the hotel lobby candle arrives right at your doorstep with the box. Literally. Even the outside of the box smells amazing. But of course, opening the box is the real fun. Each candle comes in a super nice grosgrain ribbon bound box with a small hotel room key with all the instructions/details. As soon as you open the box, you are greeted with a “cold throw” of the candle, or unlit smell. Of course, they are immediately intoxicating. To be honest, I have a few in my house that I never light up because they fill the whole room with their delicious aromas without a flame in sight.

Of course, the “warm throw” or burning scents of these candles are just as amazing. In fact, these candles are the most beautifully burning candles I have ever seen. And trust me I’ve had my fair share of candles from Diptyque, Voluspa, Yankee, WoodWick, Bath & Body Works, Target and more. The burn is so smooth and even and impressive. Even if you turn off the flame, you don’t notice that “smoke” smell. That’s pretty amazing. What it should be, for $58.

To be honest, I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical and suspicious when I took my first hotel lobby candle out of the packaging. After all, for $58 it definitely feels a bit much if you’re used to WoodWick and Bath & Body Works candles. However, once you smell it, burn it, understand the quality/luxury/difference between this candle and its competitors, and how long 65 hours actually is, it’s totally worth it.
